Cantorum October Concert

                                  Cantorum October Concert

Four professional opera singers, all former young artists of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, come together with Ollie Gooch (Bray’s own Director of Music) for a performance of Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle. Two grand pianos and a piano accordion accompany this Petite Messe; ironic as it’s not always Solenelle!

Composer, Gioachino Rossini, who came out of well heeled retirement from writing operas composed a musically satirical work which pokes fun at the excesses of protracted endings of sections of masses and movements of symphonies of the time, combined with hints of mimicking the styles of other composers, which results in music that has both poignancy and jollity in equal measure.  Rossini described it perfectly as the ‘last sin of my old age!’
